Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and the Getreidegasse
Visitors to Salzburg will encounter signs of the city’s famous son, the great composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, at every twist and turn. He was not only born here, but spent most of his life in Salzburg in between his journeys abroad. Just one of his siblings survived infancy, and young Wolfgang and his sister travelled and performed throughout Europe. The family always returned to Salzburg. However, despite his constant endeavours, Mozart was unable to secure a suitable permanent position in the city. He spent the last 10 years of his life mainly in Vienna, where he died shortly before his 36th birthday.
Back to Salzburg: Mozart’s birthplace is located in the Getreidegasse, one of the city’s most famous streets. The house in which he was born now houses a museum dedicated to the great maestro. It gives you and your conference attendees a fascinating glimpse into the life and times of the 18th century composer and musician. This itinerary is best combined with a stroll through the lively Getreidegasse.
